Peach margis are to legit to quit! I only had one sip but it smacked my palette into submission and made me want more but I had to be good since I was the DD. The girls convinced me that espinaca dip was a must since we had a 'cupin' and it was free. I decided to check out their new carnitas tacos with a green chile queso. Yah, I think they found the hottest Hatch chiles from the fields of New Mexico..my throat burned like I had trekked the Sahara without the aid of a camel or canteen. I'm no sissy when it comes to hot and spicy, I mean my car is nicknamed Kiki Sriracha and I have deviled my eggs with a squirt or 3. A little warning Jose, it's only right for those folks that may not tolerate such palette sweats!

The service here was really bad and fajitas were almost inedible. I had to criticize a local business and I used to love this place, but it looks like they have gone mega-corporate and are trying to lower costs. Thus, they hire less servers (meaning my sister had to wait 15 minutes to get her salad dressing because our server was busy with other customers) and use cheaper ingredients (the meat on the steak fajitas was rubber tough, grilled too long and void of any spice). There are lots of better tex-mex places in the area. Darn shame because this one is closest to my house.

My lovely grandma and I came here last night for dinner. Surprisingly for a Mexican restaurant on a Tuesday, this place wasn't busy. We got seated and ordered waters and we were off to the races. I placed an order for an appetizer and just as a word to the wise, they automatically will try and give you the full order of anything you order if it comes in a half also. So I had to specify half when he came back (since he ran off quicker than I could say anything else). That was fine, the guac was delish. We ordered dinner, I had the flautas (since they were on special) and grandma had the creamy steak enchiladas and they were both very good. I don't like that our server didn't seem to give a care about us... and it was like pulling teeth to get refills on salsa, chips or waters. I also was very surprised that he didn't even ask if we wanted dessert since that's usually a norm. Just slipped by, threw down our check and came back when he saw a card laying there. Foods fine, service could be significantly better.

I'm typically not one for chain Mexican, but it's Kansas City so I figured I'd go where I could walk, haha. The bartender was awesome (thanks, Andy...READ "READY PLAYER ONE", you'll love it), the fajita burrito was EXCELLENT! Way above expectations here, for sure. I'll be back again in future travels, for sure. Keep kickin ass, Jose Peppers!

This place is my second home. Honestly inject espinaca in my blood stream and I probably wouldn't complain.

Great espinaca dip & salsa. Thin, crispy chips...just the way they should be done. Definitely not authentic Mexican food, but still yummy. It's been described to me as authentic Mexican 30 years ago, but we've now got more authentic options. It's definitely above your neighborhood Mexican place...as I described Tequila Harry's. Tons of lunch specials and they seem to be used to getting people in and out quickly. I go back and forth, but currently loving the Parmesan Crusted Shrip Quesadillas with avacado. Decent fish tacos, chicken and steak burritos. Always friendly staff. Never a bad meal. Clean bathrooms. Get a points card and get free espinaca dip every other visit!

Excellent food and service. We got a mahi taco plate, enchilada plate and tacos. All were awesome. Very large portions too. We could have split a plate if we had known. I would definitely come here again. Great food!

Good Mexican at a reasonable price with good service. You will leave satisfied and with a full tummy. Years ago in the late 1980s, this place opened at the corner of 103rd and Metcalf. For me, this was about as far south as I knew to go. I mean, sure, Showbiz Pizza was just a block away, and then there was that Laser tag place, but for Mexican food, there wasn't another around. It was pretty barren out here. The Blue Valley area was still being developed. So, you drive the "loop" around Metcalf as a teenager, and end up at The Glenwood theater, Chili's or Jose Peppers, where you turn around and come back North. It's not that way anymore. Teenagers today don't even know that loop, and the Chili's and Glenwood theater are not even there anymore. Jose's has become a chain across the area and simply a Mexican staple in Kansas City. It might be required eating, in Johnson County, I don't know. If you live around Johnson County, then eat at a Jose's. So, what should you expect at this location? It has changed a bit, since the 80s. But the food has remained consistently good. There is a full bar side to the restaurant, with plenty of seating and, for some reason a lot of open space that resembles a dance floor. I've never understood that space arrangement, and feel like they are missing an opportunity for 2 or 3 additional tables. The staff is a mixture of newbies trying to get it right and people that have been there for years. It's not run and staffed by Latin folks, as many of the best KC chain Mexican restaurants are (Taqueria Mexico, Mi Ranchito), but the food is still consistently good. And what is that food? An Americanized Tex-Mex mixture of yummy goodness! You can gauge a good Tex-Mex place typically by the Carne Asada plate or Fajitas, but sadly they aren't a stand out there (missing one, and just OK on the other). What they do have and do well are local creations like Pollo Magnifico. This burrito like creation is well seasoned chunks of chicken wrapped up in a burrito, chopped into two halves, topped with jalapeño cream cheese and melted cheese on a plate with standard rice and beans. It's just so good! Each bite comes together in an assault of Mexican inspired flavors with a little bit of a crunch to the burrito flour. My personal favorite is the Diablo Taco. I don't think it's even on the menu, but it's a solid soft shell chicken taco with some kind of spicy slightly oily sauce to it. Great with black beans on the side. Well. I'm writing this on a plane to Houston, Texas and thinking I really can't find this kind of flavor at any of the Mexican places I've tried there. Maybe Jose's has Kansas'd it up a little, I don't know. It's good stuff. Eat there.

Love this place. Great prices and the food was delicious. Their kids' menu had a lot of options and my kids enjoyed the free cookies. We'll be back for sure and enjoy another tasty margarita here.

The service is excellent! Sitting in the bar, and our server Nate couldn't be nicer. I love how they use the buddy system to take care of the customer! Everyone is involved. Way to take care of the customer!

The Pollo Magnfico is indeed magnifico! Great place with alot of variety - love the jalapeno cream cheese on the Magnifico, and their enchiladas are great. Oh yeah, don't forget the cookie monster!

I've been to some of the other locations and was in the mood for some "Mexican" food and because this location was fairly close to my hotel, I thought I'd give it a shot. When I got there, the bartender was slammed due to the take-out orders running through the bar. At first, I was a bit irritated because I wanted to sit at the bar to eat and drink and the take out crowd was continually standing there awaiting their food. This really affected the service; and this is in no way a slam on the bartender because he was busting his tail trying to keep up. After the take-outs died down considerably, I had a very good meal and great banter with the bartender, who by the way makes a killer top shelf 'Rita, as well as a couple of other patrons who were also sitting at the bar. I wouldn't hesitate to go back but I wish there was a better process for the take-out orders. If there were, it would be easily a 4 star rating.

I went on a Friday evening so they were very busy but quick to get you checked in and seated. Had the Shrimp Tacos & friend had the Chicken Quesadillas which were both good. Service checked in on us regularly and was very attentive. The server did ask about dessert before we even started with the main course and felt like we were being rushed during the meal.

  • Meredith S.

When a friend offers to buy lunch you can't beat Jose Peppers for Mexican food. The chips were great and the salsa was just the right amount of spicy. We had plenty of food from the cheese quesadillas and spinach enchiladas to have three meals. The cheese sauce on the enchiladas was yummy. Prices are reasonable and the service was good!

  • Nancy A.

I have mixed feelings about this place... on one hand, the service was really good and the cheese dip was great. On the other hand, there's this weird old timey buffet feel to the place. It was not the best or the worst mexican food I have had, and this is the most memorable thing to say about this place.

  • Joey E.

Food and service was great but I had a server in training. No big deal he will be better with more experience. Highly recommended restaurant it's just always busy so it's pretty loud in there.

  • J W.

Yes Sir... That's right... FOUR stars... The food here is pretty damn good, the service is pretty damn good and the price is super damn good. Mondays and Tuesdays they have $2 Margaritas... Where the heck can you get anything for two bucks anymore??? Right here duh... Seriously... Good food, for a very reasonable price. Tip... Ask for the HOT hot sauce and order the queso blanco... It's very yummy and has spinach and some other tasty morsels in it as well!!

Best mexican restaurant ever! I recently moved back to KC after living in other states for 9 years. I missed this Mexican restaurant so much!! There are no good mexican restaurants like this in Florida. I love their salsa and tacos. Best ever, so glad to be near one again!

  • Joe H.

I love this place, it is american Mexican food to the "T" but that doesn't stop my love affair with this place one tiny bit. Tuesday $2 marg night, doesn't get better than that. I've had a couple service issues, but nothing really out of the ordinary. When I have a hankering for some down home good fajitas and cheap booze (that's close to home) Jose Peppers is it! Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is they don't have the seafood enchiladas year round, but make sure you try them when they have it - unreal good. Recommendation: Start with espinanca dip (queso basically), Steak fajitas for dinner, with 2 or 3 (or 4) Marg's to wash it down.

  • Britt K.

Hands down my favorite place to eat! They have amazing chips and salsa and of course who doesn't love cheese dip??? :) I've been coming here for years and despite adding staff and staff leaving mostly everyone remembers my name and....embarrassingly enough what I eat! I almost always get great service, I get my food quickly and if there has ever been an issue (which rarely happens) they fix it right away! Andy, Katie, Clay (now at the Midland location), Haley (now at the Olathe location I believe) are always efficient at their job and fun to talk to! The owners are good people as well!! All over great place to get a meal and not overly priced. I love that they have a new happy hour they are trying out, my one complaint is that my favorite strawberry margs aren't an option for it :(

  • Brandy D.

Once upon a time this was a great Mexican place to visit in OP... that was many moons ago. I have tried this place at least 3 times in the last year and every SINGLE time it is worse. The food smells like vomit and the last two times we left, my daughters were vomiting within an hour of leaving... scary part is that multiple people have said the same exact thing. To be fair - I have not experienced this nastiness at any of the other Jose Peppers

Always love this place. The day shift host Diane is always so kind and accommodating She should train all hostesses at all restaurants on how to greet people. Always friendly and has a smile to welcome you.

This is now my favorite Mexican restaurant in KC! The portions are generous. The food is wonderful and fresh. I have loved every dish I have tried and especially loved the corn stuff that comes on your place... I cannot remember what it is called. I see you again soon ;)

I have been to two locations now and am pretty impressed with both the food and the margaritas. In addition, the chips and salsa are considerably better than many of the other Mexican restaurants offer. This review is going to focus on the Olathe restaurant because of the impeccable service, which made our dining experience a true pleasure. Our server was very good, but the experience we had with the GM was the best. Bill was going around to each table making sure everyone was happy and being properly served by the staff. He spent a great deal of time with us, not only concerned about our service, but we also discussed our families and kids at considerable length, all while the restaurant was obviously very busy. We were impressed with Bill's kindness and compassion, and the professionalism that he has obviously instilled in the staff. Leadership can make or break a business, and there is no question in my mind why this restaurant does so well.

Espinaca. Espinaca, my kingdom for more espinaca! I get coupons for free espinaca in the mail all the time and it really is an effective marketing campaign, each time that flyer appears so does the siren call that draws you in. This slightly spicy white cheese dip with spinach and tomatoes is utterly perfect. Go on a Monday or Tuesday and get the $1.99 Margarita. They are big and the right strength (thanks for not cheaping out with the tequila!) Husband loves the tequila lime chicken. Huge portion of chicken! He's not one to talk about food much, but he kept mentioning how good it was and even using descriptive words. What?! Win! A burrito plate for me means two really big meals. Happy girl. I try a new one each time! Good service, usually.

This review is strictly for carry out. After a long afternoon/early evening, we were craving Mexican but didn't want to go out with two tired kids. I did a yelp search and this was one of the closest places to where we were. I've been back in KC for a little over 2 1/2 years and hadn't been here yet. Peeking at the menu online, I decided to get a taco salad. I was debating whether to get a kids quesadilla meal for my son since he typically devours them. I called to place our order and was put on hold for five minutes so I just hung up and called back. The person who answered the phone apologized and took our order himself. I asked him about the size of the quesadilla that comes with the tortilla soup (which my mom was planning to order but didn't want the quesadilla) and he said it was comparable to what comes with the kids meal. Good one less thing to order, I guess. Then told me it would be about 20 minutes. My husband went to pick up the food. More than 30 minutes later, he was still waiting at the bar. Finally our food arrived. The "quesadilla" was just a flour tortilla with nothing inside. My mom pulled out some cheese and put it in a tortilla for my son - I'm REALLY glad we didn't spend the money on a kids meal! My salad was fine. Not amazing but not bad either. Everyone else enjoyed their food and I did appreciate the two bags of chips they gave us along with plenty of salsa. I would definitely try to return here sometime to see if the dining-in experience is less chaotic.

Jose Pepper's has pretty good food for a decent price. I'm not a huge fan of their margaritas, but the food is tasty as well as the chips/dip. The service is quick and friendly. Good place to grab lunch.

I love Jose Peppers. As a family, we love Mexican food of all kinds. Jose Peppers has two locations in our area - this one and the one at 143rd and Metcalf. Also, Cactus Grill has basically the same menu and it is at 119th and Roe, so you are never far from this wonderful cheesy goodness. You can use a coupon for free queso dip or pay $1.50. It's decadent, cheesy goodness. No, they probably don't eat this in Mexico, but I don't really care. Their chips are light and not too salty. Get the spicy salsa if you like some heat in your salsa. We usually mix half mild/ half spicy. I almost always get the lunch combination - deep fried taco and enchilada of choice. My husband gets the nachos and the teens get tacos or enchiladas. The chicken is seasoned, the shredded beef is good and so is the ground beef. Service is good at this location. We usually go here on Sundays, but we have come a few times on the weekends and it hasn't been too crazy then either. This is a great place for a family dinner and I'm sure we will be back.

  • Ryan G.

Love the salsa and I have always loved the salads. Good portions of whatever's supposed to be in there. Both cheese dips, the ccq and the espinaca, are worth it. Not as in love with this place as my wife, but, if I'm dragged along to a spot she loves, Jose Peppers isn't too bad. (the Metcalf location in particular)

  • Lauren M.

I ate here for the first time last night, and wasn't impressed. It wasn't the most terrible meal I've ever had, but it was mediocre. I did really enjoy the espinaca, it was good. Our waiter was almost too attentive, I felt rushed out. I was still eating when he brought the check and started clearing the table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa, but I know not all salsa can be the same. I had the flauta platter and they put a ton of cilantro inside of it. The chicken was dry, but the beans and rice were pretty good. Overall: Food: 3 out of 5 Service: 3 out of 5 Atmosphere: 2 out of 5

    (3)
  • Raymond L.

Well I went here for dinner. Atmosphere was very quiet. The waitress was very nice and checked on me every minute she got. Most important the queso, which I always go to a mexican joint for was really good. I got the steak enchiladas for dinner which was also amazing overall the experience was great.

  • C L.

My second visit to this location included an encounter with the lunch-sized portion of cheese and onion enchiladas. It was about 4:00 and I hadn't eaten all day, so everything was tasty: chips and salsa, the cheese dip, the iced tea. Yum.

  • Meghan W.

I had an amazing experience at this Jose Peppers. The food was very good. I had the shrimp quesadilla and I loved it. The queso was the perfect level of spice and I loved how thin their chips were. They have great $2 margaritas during happy hour. I don't drink all that much, but when I can get a margarita for less than a coke; well who am I to refuse that? The service here was the real star of the show. Our server was very friendly and helpful. My boyfriend can't have artificial food dyes (red 40, yellow 5, blue 1, etc) and our server went way out of her way to check ingredient labels for us. She even brought a bottle of the fruit concentrate, used in their margaritas, to our table for us to double check the ingredients. I know full well how annoying special diets can be and that makes me appreciate servers who will go the extra mile even more.

    (5)
  • Rohit A.

Absolutely fantastic. Great food with amazing service, I can't ask for more. And you can't beat $2 Margarita during happy hour. If you like hot flavor ,ask for it,they will give you a very hot sauce. Ambiance is good and trendy.

  • Sara D.

I met up with some new friends at Jose Peppers around 8 PM Saturday night. (In fact, I just came back from there....) I wasn't a fan. Our server was nice. The margaritas were 2 for $7 and they were STRONG. (I may or may not have run to the bathroom...which brings me to the fact that the booths are hard to squeeze out of when you're in a hurry....) I got the Enchilada Platter Special with Chicken Avacado Enchiladas. I thought it was gross gross gross. I always finish my plate of food when eating at a restaurant; this was the first time ever that I've never finished my meal. The enchiladas were just some green tortilla with more green on top...all very bland and very green. I had fun getting to know my new friends, but I won't be coming back.

I have been going to Jose P's for a long time with my daughter. She loves this place. Although I am only giving 4 stars, if she were writing this review, she would give it 5 stars... but hey, she isn't writing it. The food is consistently good, and I love those little gooey cornmeal balls that they serve with each plate. Also, we always have their $1.99 Espinaca dip.

  • Autumn P.

I was in Kansas City for business and just happened across Jose Peppers. First of all the parking lot was full which is always a good sign. I had the grilled fish taco and my friend ordered the spinach enchiladas. Everything was incredible! We especially liked the corn cake that came with the meals. We will definitely be back!

    (5)
  • Ben L.

3.5 stars. Had a good first impression with the food. They serve big portions and the food was tasty. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which was about $10. Next time I come, Ill try the fish tacos or fajitas. Service was fine and they worked hard but they were under staffed at the time.

The closer you get to the boarder the shittier the mexican food tastes!! Jose Peppers is my FAV!! The Al Carbon Tacos are delicioso! Add with that the cheese dip for the chips and guac dip roll me home!! And over in Liberty area is good too!

  • Angela K.

Saying Jose Peppers is Mexican is using that term loosely. But damn, it's good stuff. Lunchtime is always quick and the service at this location has always been great. It's a pretty big place, so I've never had to wait at lunch even though the parking lot is overflowing and the inside is packed. Chips and salsa come out to the table immediately. Because corporate life apparently makes people so ravenously hungry that they couldn't wait another second to stuff delicious, hot, corn chips in their mouths. The salsa is mild but tasty and they always keep the bowls filled. Kudos for bringing separate bowls for each person so you don't have to worry about that pesky double-dipping problem and share germs with all of your friends. The espinaca dip is a must. This stuff is so good they sell it in the grocery store! Creamy, cheesy goodness! I always order the Spinada Enchilada because I'm a creature of habit. A flour tortilla wrapped around spinach and cheese and covered in a white cream sauce. It's served with rice and refried beans. I'm hungry just thinking about that giant plate of carbs! But there's spinach, so it's healthy! But a warning, when I went last week and ordered the Spinada Enchilada, the waiter said it wasn't on the menu anymore. GASP!! He managed to get it made for me anyway, though. Crisis averted! What are you thinking, Jose Peppers?! Getting rid of my beloved Spinada Enchilada?! I've been ordering that for well over 15 years now! Don't do this to me! As long as the kitchen will still make it for me, though, I guess I'm fine. That better be going back on the menu, though, or there will be rioting. And some sort of internal crying.

Peppers has the best queso in town. the staff is professional and always helpful. Service is fast, and all the food is good. Also, they make a great margarita.

Espinaca FTW. They have fairly good (and huge) lunch combinations for less than 10 bucks. Combine that with the free chips and salsa, you'll leave feeling quite satisified if you're in the mood for some Mexican.

  • Alisia T.

This place is very good and better than the other places that my fiance and I have tried in the area. He had the steak tacos and I loved my Mahi tacos. The only complaint that we had was that the meat was VERY salty, and we were just glad that the other ingredients didn't have any seasoning so it evened out a bit. We also didn't care for the pico when it came to using it for our chips but it was great on our tacos! Our server was great filling our drinks with good timing and checked in on our how our good was. We will definitely be back.

  • Jonathan L.

I visited this location back in about 2008 or so. Haven't been back since. My mother and I thought it'd be nice to try Jose Peppers one night for dinner. Never had it before, but we've seen the place, it always looked nice and busy. We ordered the nacho appetizer - if I'm not mistaken, nachos freshly made should have melted cheese, not dried-up. As for the main entrees, both of us ordered burritos - meat was dry, food was kinda cold. Far as I know, it might've improved over the years, but to me, first impressions last a lifetime. Might give it a go in the near future, but if I'm looking for Mexican or Tex-Mex, plenty of better restaurants in the KC area.

I ate at Jose Pepper's last weekend. The food is very tasty, and the atmosphere is fun and lively. Food comes out to your table quickly. This is a great sit-down restaurant if you're looking for a quick sit-down. Our server was nice and prompt. My only gripe was with the hostess. We had a group of four, and the hostess took us to a little corner table in a back room. One person in our group asked if we could have a table instead that was in the main dining area. Acting disgusted, she took us to a different table in the main room. All four of us said, "Thank you" to her, in fact one person in our group thanked her repeatedly. She completely ignored the multiple "thank yous" that she received after we kindly asked to sit in a different area. She actually didn't say a word. I'd give Jose Pepper's five stars if the hostess, while understandably annoyed by our request, at least exhibited a friendly, customer service-oriented demeanor. Oh well. Visit Jose Pepper's for the food. It's quite tasty.

Sorry, I just don't get it... My family and I were on a road trip and stayed in Overland Park overnight. I looked up places to eat close to our hotel and Jose Pepper's had good reviews so we were on our way. We certainly did not have a multi-star experience. First of all we had 3, or maybe 4, or was it 5 different waiters. Honestly I'm not sure who was taking care of us, so we quickly learned when we were in need we would just flag down anyone with a black shirt . One person took our drink order, another took our food order, another brought our drinks, another brought our food, and then the person who seated us asked us how we were doing and ended up returning my wife's meal. So, the host also seemed to be the manager. I'm not sure who doubled as the cook or the bartender... Speaking of bartender, I asked for a "real" Margarita, meaning no sour mix, real lime, Silver Tequila, and Cointreau instead of Triple Sec. What I got was Tequila, Cointreau, and Rose's Lime! You would think a place specializing in Margaritas would know not to use Rose's Lime in place of freshly squeezed lime. It was undrinkable and was returned. Then came my wife's steak fajitas, which was cooked in butter with an overwhelming amount of garlic. I'd guess 4-5 cloves. It was returned for veggies cooked without butter or garlic. I had what they dubbed as their famous chicken burrito smothered in a creamy jalapeno sauce. In their defense it was white with a lot of cheese and a hint of jalapeno. Chicken and sauce was just bland, but I ate it. Chips were very good, but the salsa was bland. So we asked for the hot salsa, which was disappointing as it was obviously just meant to be hot and not flavorful. I usually won't write bad reviews, but my wife insisted we warn others. So, you have been warned. One thing I must mention. I lived 13yrs in Arizona, so I might be a Mexican food snob.

Great food. Love the Chicken Avocado Enchiladas. You also can get lunch portions at dinner which make the portion size just right. Salsa is addictive as is the espinaca dip. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in KC.

I have always enjoyed this restaurant. I have been a regular for many years. I moved out of Overland Park to Houston,TX(3 years). Believe it or not, Texas does not have good Mexican food (unless I hadn't found it). Since then, I moved to Denver. Again, there's no great Mexican food here either. Whenever I am in OP, Jose Peppers is the first place I will go to. I tried their Corona Shrimp Tacos. It was great. Our server was wonderful.

Went here last night and it was a great experience. Overall the food was good, (not mind blowing, but I left very happy!) and the service was great. Our server Hailey visited us enough to get us anything we needed. The Espenaca (sp?) was very tasty as were the chips (warm and crispy!) I had two grilled chicken tacos with well seasoned meat. I substituted a salad for rice & beans. The salad could have been better (it was a pre made mix, although not Iceberg) with a few croutons. Adding a few fresh veggies really would have been nice. I will be going back!

have not been to this location in a good while (been to others). Will NOT return to this one. Once we got the server to wait on us, she had to pull her self away from chatting with couple ladies sitting at end of the bar. She was pleasant enough but screwed up the order and we knew she would. You know how you just know it's not going to be good. 2 of us. One ordered chicken fajitas, other ordered bbq chicken salad. she repeats back, bbq chicken salad and steak fajitas. My son corrects her it is chicken fajitas. She leaves table goes back to enter order the whole time chatting with ladies again sitting at end of the bar. She is an actual server not running the bar as well. After fair amount of time and snacking on our very good espinaca dip and salsa, guess what comes to table. My BBQ salad, I think.....sure not BBQ and definitely not like the one I ate recently at Olathe location. It's OK, it was still pretty good, and STEAK fajitas. My son corrects the food runner that it should be Chicken. Wait, wait, wait and out comes UNDER COOKED chicken fajitas.....so now we are on try #3. In the interim I mentioned to my son I would rate them on Yelp and he says to me, "no, don't do that. I feel like people only comment the bad and not the good", to which I replied, "Nope, I comment both,. people and business need to hear from the customers". Well after their attempt at try #3, manager was rude like we were being difficult. Chicken lousy again. My son says to the manager, this is 3rd try when he brings the lunch plate, first one was steak and he says, "oh, that was the servers fault, she entered it wrong". Not a "I'm sorry, etc". They comp's his meal as well they should have, 3 attempts, come on already! I paid for my meal, and both drinks. My son says, "do not leave a tip and by all means leave a review on yelp". We have been long time loyal customers to Jose Peppers, know a couple of the managers and area managers and I'd say management needs to get in that location and fix the problems. I believe the manager who use to run it is now at the Legends new location whom my son and daughter in-law just saw last week and said the food and service was excellent.

A must for Mexican food! The Espinaca dip is a glorious and divine experience and we enjoyed $2 margaritas with our meal. Giant portions, attentive staff....love. This. Place.

Very good Mexican food. Had the queso dip to start, which was outstanding. Main dish - I had the steak enchiladas and my colleague had the steak fajitas - both were fantastic. This place will definitely be a regular visit.

They have a Chimichanga with Jalapeno Creame Cheese sauce that is to die for. And they have a moist corn bread with cinnamon garnish that I simply can not get enough of. It makes my mouth water just to talk about it. I used to go to this place at least once a week when I worked off 105th st. Now I quite simply don't get out to this restaurant nearly enough, but I love every bite when I do.

Amazing food and fast service. Always a crowd pleaser among my friends and family. The must tries are the espinaca and the pollo magnifico. The parking lot outside is usually packed, but once you finally get a spot you're in for a treat inside.

My husband and I was craving mexican food Sunday evening after we came home from the lake. Our favorite Mexican restaurant is not open on Sunday's so we thought we would try Jose Peppers. I asked the waitress if the chicken was marinated in onions and tomotatoes and she said it wasn't. I ordered the Chicken and Avacado Enchilada's with beans. My husband ordered the #5. The chicken IS marinated in onions and tomotatoes and the avacado was guacamole full of onions glopped on top. Good thing I had my Epi-Pen with me. My husband thought the shredded beef in the taco was very tough and didn't care for the same sauce being used on his enchilada and burrito. We spent way too much money and left very unhappy. The chips were very good though! Nice and light.

The food here is way better than the service! My taco burrito was pretty good! I really liked the guacamole and fresh veggies that came with it. The rice tastes to much like chili powder for me but it wasn't awful. The server asked us 3 times if we wanted an appetizer, at a place that servers complimentary chips and salsa. And when I insisted no thank you, he acted like he was offended. He did his job adequately but seemed as if he would have rather been anywhere else. Maybe he was just having a bad day which happens to all of us, to which I say, suck it up buttercup! You will make more tips if you smile and at least act like you like your job.

Wow, I've had mexican food across the United States and can say that hands down this place is worthy of me making a trip back to Kansas :) Pros: *Amazing service - my water was never below half full - just the way I like it *Yummy warm fresh chips mmm with complementary salsa *2 for $7 margaritas *Good for large groups *Large menu, has some vegetarian options - I'd recommend the two cheese and onion enchiladas *Really cheap for what you're getting (maybe California has skewed my perception on price though ;) Cons: *Kansas is a long way from California! Tips: *Order the Espinaca con Queso dip - you won't regret it! *Yes, the free chips and salsa are delish but pace yourself or you won't have any room for your entree! *Portions are huge! Bottom line, can't wait till I return to the heartland and get my hands on some of those chips and salsa! watch out!

  • Lea K.

My personal opinion: If you don't eat meat I recommending trying some place else. Though they have options the substitutions are too much of a hassle. I was told the enchilada sauce has chicken broth so that isn't an option; they had one cheese sauce out of their extensive selection of sauces that didn't have meat broth in it. Also I was told the pinto beans and the rice has chicken broth. I had to sub fries but you don't go to a Mexican restaurant for the fries. When it was all said and done the food was good but not worth the effort.

My family and I love going to Jose Peppers. They generally are quick and the food is good. However, beware when the crowds die down, so does the service. Now if we drive by and the parking lot looks less than busy, I look for another place to eat because I know I will be highly frustrated at the slim service I receive. Other than that.....YUM!!

I've been all over town and Mexican food wise this is my favorite for grilled chicken quesadillas, and thier famous chicken dish wrapped in tortillas and covered with cheese and baked is excellent, salsa and guacamole is good and i liked thier chips better than the other places. the parking on a busy saturday is very tricky but staff was polite and if you get take out you are set with thier amount of chips and salsa they give you.

Our VERY favorite Mexican food! LOVE the Tacos Al Carbon - the meat is SO good & the onions and green bell peppers and bacon in taht flour tortilla...MMMM! Also LOVE the Pollo Magnifico! These are my two favs & usually what I get everytime. We eat here probably 3 times a month! Great margarita's and espinaca is a must too! Can't think of a time when I've ever had bad service there either. Great food & great service!

I've been to Jose Peppers a few times and it's definitely not Chile's. The steak and goat cheese towers are a surprisingly "foodie" treat. The veggie quesadillas are outstanding -- I would not have thought to put cauliflower in a quesadilla, but it is SO right. The cheese isn't greasy and runny, but good-quality Mexican stuff. The free chips and salsa are perfection: thin, almost transparent, salty chips, and the best, freshest housemade salsa I've had, with plenty of cilantro. In my experience, service has ranged from good to spectacular. This is a reasonably-priced, nontraditional Mexican place that I recommend highly.

The Pollo Magnfico is indeed magnifico! Great place with alot of variety - love the jalapeno cream cheese on the Magnifico, and their enchiladas are great. Oh yeah, don't forget the cookie monster!

Eat there.

Excellent food and service. We got a mahi taco plate, enchilada plate and tacos. All were awesome. Very large portions too. We could have split a plate if we had known. I would definitely come here again. Great food!

I have mixed feelings about this place... on one hand, the service was really good and the cheese dip was great. On the other hand, there's this weird old timey buffet feel to the place. It was not the best or the worst mexican food I have had, and this is the most memorable thing to say about this place.

Food and service was great but I had a server in training. No big deal he will be better with more experience. Highly recommended restaurant it's just always busy so it's pretty loud in there.

Well I went here for dinner. Atmosphere was very quiet. The waitress was very nice and checked on me every minute she got. Most important the queso, which I always go to a mexican joint for was really good. I got the steak enchiladas for dinner which was also amazing overall the experience was great.

My second visit to this location included an encounter with the lunch-sized portion of cheese and onion enchiladas. It was about 4:00 and I hadn't eaten all day, so everything was tasty: chips and salsa, the cheese dip, the iced tea. Yum.

Good service, usually.

have not been to this location in a good while (been to others).

3.5 stars. Had a good first impression with the food. They serve big portions and the food was tasty. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which was about $10. Next time I come, Ill try the fish tacos or fajitas. Service was fine and they worked hard but they were under staffed at the time.

Absolutely fantastic. Great food with amazing service, I can't ask for more. And you can't beat $2 Margarita during happy hour. If you like hot flavor ,ask for it,they will give you a very hot sauce. Ambiance is good and trendy.

This is now my favorite Mexican restaurant in KC! The portions are generous. The food is wonderful and fresh. I have loved every dish I have tried and especially loved the corn stuff that comes on your place... I cannot remember what it is called. I see you again soon ;)

Espinaca FTW. They have fairly good (and huge) lunch combinations for less than 10 bucks. Combine that with the free chips and salsa, you'll leave feeling quite satisified if you're in the mood for some Mexican.

Average. The wait staff though was attentive and happy. Had the Mahi Fish tacos. 3.5 chips and salsa 3.0 Nothing to write home about but the prices are resonable.

Monterrey chicken burrito is my go to dish with a side of mucho margaritas! The last time we went the waitress was a little too cozy in our booth but food was great like always!

Bottom line, can't wait till I return to the heartland and get my hands on some of those chips and salsa! watch out!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
